New Brunswick weather: Blizzard-like conditions expected

A snow storm is expected to pound the Maritimes all day on Wednesday as the low pressure system tracks up the Bay of Fundy.

A snowstorm is expected to pound the Maritimesall day on Wednesday as the low pressure system tracks up the Bay of Fundy.

"Much of the area will experience blizzard-likeconditions with frequent whiteouts," says CBC meteorologist Peter Coade, before the storm moves out into the Gulf of St. Lawrence tonight.

Awinter storm warning is in place for today for nearly all of New Brunswick.Woodstockand Carleton County, Grand Falls and Victoria County andEdmundstonandMadawaskaCounty are the only areas of the province not under a warning or advisory.

"Hazardous winter conditions are expected," says the statement from Environment Canada.

"Snow at times heavy and blowing snow over southwestern portions of the province will spread northeastward this morning. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres are currently expected."

Winds are forecast to continue throughout the day, gusting to 70 km/h and causing blowing snow and reduced visibility.

The snow is expected to taper to flurries by this afternoon.

New Brunswick forecast

Northern New Brunswick

Wednesday: It will be windy with snow, heavy at times, and blowing snow and a high of 4 C. Communities can expect about 10 cm in the west and 15 cm in the east along with winds from the northeast gusting to 70 km/h in the afternoon.

Wednesday night: It will be windy with flurries and blowing snow ending overnight with a low of10 C.

Thursday: A mix of sun and cloud is expected with a chance of flurries, winds from the northwest at 30 km/h and a high of8 C.

Fredericton and area

Wednesday: It will be windy with snow, heavy at times, and blowing snow tapering to flurries by afternoon.

The Fredericton area can expect further snowfall of 10 to 15 cm and winds from the northeast gusting to60 km/h in the afternoon with a high of2 C.

Wednesday night: Flurries will end late in the evening and blowing snow will end after midnight with skies clearing before morning and a low of12 C.

Thursday: It will be mainly sunny with winds from the west gusting to 40 km/h and a high of8 C.

Southern New Brunswick

Wednesday: Windy with snow, heavy at times, and blowing snow mixed at times with rain along the Fundy coast. Further snowfall of 15 to 20 cm expected along with winds from the northeastgusting to 70 km/h and a high of 0 C.

Wednesday night: It will be windy with flurries ending this evening and then clearing. Winds will diminish overnight with a low of10 expected.

Thursday: It will be mainly sunny and windy with a high near8 C.
