Woodstock man deemed fit to stand trial for murder

A 19-year-old man from the Woodstock area has been found fit to stand trial for second-degree murder.

A 19-year-old man from the Woodstock area has been found fit to stand trial for second-degreemurder.

Kyle Edmund Scott is accused of killingSarah Kennedy, 82, whowas found deadin her Richmond Corner home on Oct.5.

Scott appeared in court on Wednesday after undergoing a 30-dayassessment at theRestigoucheHospital Centre for psychiatric care inCampbellton.

The report found he"did not suffer from mental disorders so as to exclude him from criminal responsibility," the courtroom heard.

Scott, whose hands were cuffed and feet were shackled, showed no emotion.

A preliminary inquiry has been scheduled for Jan. 31 todetermine if there is enough evidence to proceed to a trial.

Scott was arrested hours after Kennedy's body was discovered. Police said he was apprehended driving Kennedy's vehicle, which had been stolen from her home.

Police have not disclosed the cause of death.
