19-year-old facing impaired driving charges in fatal collision

A 19-year-old is facing serious charges following a fatal single-vehicle collision that happened early Sunday morning in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Colin Jacque is charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

The victim in the collision was 19-year-old Kiefer Frieda.

A third person in the vehicle was injured in the collision.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. July 19 on Hamilton River Road, between Courte Real Road and Markland Street.

RCMP Const. Andrew Standen says the fatal crash has been felt throughout Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

"Any time there's a tragic loss in a situation like this, obviously it has an impact on the community - and this case is no different than that," said Standen.

"You know, it's an emotional time for the community and it's going to take them time to healand get over, or move forward I guess."
