20K contraband cigarettes seized in Horwood, 2 face charges

Two people from Horwoodon Newfoundland's northeast coastare facing charges for bringing in contraband tobacco.

Earlier this week, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit intercepted two packages that were shipped from Ontario en route to Horwood, which contained 20,000 contraband cigarettes. The cigarettes were shipped in 100 cartons.

Investigators later seized the cigaretteswhen they executed a warrant and searched a home in the town.

On Monday, a woman, 59, and aman, 61, were charged under the Excise Act and the Revenue Administration Act.

The investigation is ongoing.The man and woman may face additional charges.
