Don't expect tulips by the 20th as giant snow banks cover Corner Brook

A local weather expert in Corner Brook says warmer, wetter days are in store for the west coast city that's currently coated in snow.

Wacky weather

Even though Spring is technically right around the corner, Corner Brook is covered in snow. Every front lawn is a giant snow bank. This video shows my frustration with all the shovelling and cleaning off the car and I ask a local weather expert Kyle Brookings if winter is ever going away.

Technically, spring is only 13 days away but it's hard to believe with the three-metrehigh snow banks in Corner Brook.

Even a sunny March day like Wednesday wasnot warm enough to put a dent in the major amount of snow dumped on the west coast in the last week.

Kyle Brookings, aCorner Brook resident who loves studying the weather, said the west coast city is in for warm temperatures and rain.

"It's probably going to be a mess but I think as we get into the second half of March we will see a gradual slow transition into more spring-like weather, said Brookings.

The snow banks are so high in some parts of Corner Brook, its hard to even see the houses. But for anyone like Brookings, who follows the weather closely, this is all normal.

"It's not like last winter where we didn't get too much snow, this seems like a typical Corner Brook winter. It's cold and it's snowy and it's really been believe it or not an average winter," said Brookings.

An average winter on the west coast also includes a lot of skiing at Marble Mountain in Steady Brook. And if you are one of the lucky ones, you're skiing or snowboardingand not shovelling.

Brookings said enjoy the winter sport while you can.

"It's going to be bad news for the snow enthusiasts, but after all the bad storms we have seen this year any sign of spring will be a welcome sight," he said.

While the melt is expected to start soon, don't expect tulips by March 20.
