Another paramedic goalie credited with saving life at hockey game

A goalie in St. John's is being hailed as a hero for saving a man's life at Mile One Centre, the second such incident in the province in a week.

A goaltenderin St. John's is being hailed as a hero for saving a man's life at Mile One Centre,the second suchincident in the province in a week.

Chris Dunphy, a firefighter and paramedic with the St. John's Regional Fire Department, was playingrecreational hockeyon Nov. 20 when another playercollapsed on the ice.

Dunphysprung into action tohelp the man, performing CPR while another personran for a defibrillator.

Dunphy, in full goalie gear, used the defibrillator to revive the collapsed player. Using one shock,he revived the player, a huge relief to Dunphy.

"It was pretty exhilarating," he said.

"All of his friends and I let out a bit of a cheer and kind of welcomed him back, weirdly enough."

Dunphy denieshe's a hero, but has beenhailed asone since the incident.

"When I came back to the station, they said at least I made one save that night," he quipped.

"It wasn't only myself down there ... it's just about helping one another. That's all it comes down to."

Lastweekend, another goalie helped revive a fanusing CPR after he collapsed just beforea senior hockey leaguegame in Gander.

In both cases, the men who collapsed were stabilized and are recovering.
