Arrest made in Waterford Valley homicide

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary'smajor crimes unitsays an arrest has been made in connection with a homicide in the Waterford Valley area ofSt. John's last spring.

In a media release Saturday afternoon, police saidSheldon Hibbs, 26,was located in Calgaryshortly after 2p.m. Friday. Last month, the RNClaid a second-degree murder charge andissued a Canada-wide arrest warrantfor Hibbs.

The RNC said they worked with the Calgary Police to confirm Hibbs's identity, and he was then placed under arrest.

Hibbs will now be transported to St. John's under the RNC's supervision and will beheld toappear before a judge on murder charges.

In May, police were called to a Waterford Valley walking trail, where68-year-old Michael King's body had been found.The RNC worked with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine that King's death was a homicide.

In February, the RNCappealed to the public to help find Hibbs, who wasat large at the time. PolicesaidKing and Hibbs were known to each other.
