B.C. river death may be suspicious: brother

The brother of a St. John's man found dead in southern British Columbia isn't convinced the death was an accident.

Two fishermen found the body of Christopher Hannaford, 27, in the Harrison River on Friday. Hannaford had been missing for a week.

"I know my brother and he can get himself out of any trouble, and my gut feeling tells me not to give up until I have the truth,"Jonathan Hannaford told CBC News from his brother's apartment in Surrey, B.C.

Christopher Hannaford, who had moved to B.C. several years ago, had been camping with friends before he was reported missing.

Jonathan Hannaford flew from St. John's last week to look for his brother, and is still looking for answers about what happened.

"I was mostly shocked that his body was fully dressed because, you know, if someone goes for a swim, they're not going to have a pullover on with track pants and socks," he said.

"I just want to know if it was an accident or not. I just want to know the truth."

He said he has numerous other reasons as to why he is suspicious but is keeping them to himself until the autopsy results are out.

The B.C. coroner's office is waiting on autopsy and toxicology reports.

Preliminary results are expected within days.
