Bell Aliant is reinstatinginternet speedto its customers in coastal Labrador communities, bumping thembackup to 1.5 MBeffective Friday.

The move followed public outcry when Bell lowered speedin the region, in what the company said was an effort to provide more consistent service.

"Feedback from, and consultation with, our customers confirms that consistency of overall Internet service did not improve," said Mark Duggan, corporate affairs advisor with Bell, in an emailed statement to CBC.

But web surfers can't expect to click through content in the blink of an eye.

"Customers will still experience network congestion and speeds below 1.5 MB," wrote Duggan.

As compensation, Bell customers will continue to receive a $10 monthly credit on their billsuntil improvements tointernet infrastructureare made.
