RCMP investigating crash that killed a 41-year-old woman on highway near Bishop's Falls

The RCMP says it's investigating a crash that killed a 41-year-old woman on the Trans-Canada Highway near Bishop's Falls on Friday.

The RCMP says it's investigating a crash that killed a 41-year-old woman on the Trans-Canada Highway near Bishop's Falls on Friday.

In a press releaseissued Monday afternoon, the RCMP said the crash involved a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer. The woman was the driver of the pickup and died at the scene, say police.

The RCMP said it received the report of the crash shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday. It said a Dodge Ram pickup left the eastbound lane and collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer travelling west on the highway, in central Newfoundland.

The Bishop's Falls fire department, Grand Falls-Windsor emergency medical services and provincial highway enforcementofficers also assisted at the scene.

A passenger of the pickup truck was sent to theCentral Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured but taken to the hospital for medical assessment.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is assisting theinvestigation.
