A bus bound for sales in St. John's will be pulling out of Corner Brook at 8 a.m. Friday, with shoppers setto hitthe ground running that evening at the Avalon Mall.

The weekend trip was organized by Buckle Charters to take advantage of Black Friday sales, a U.S. Thanksgiving shopping tradition that has spread north to Canada.

The trip includes stops at the Village Mall, downtown St. John's and big box stores in the Stavanger Drive area.

"The advantage to this tour is being able to be chauffeured around the city in a comfortable motor coach and not having to deal with unfamiliar roads, parking and the hustle and bustle of city driving and rush hour traffic in St. John's," said Robin Robinson, marketing coordinator with Buckle Charters.

Robinson said it is the first time the company has offered the Black Friday trip, and the response has been "remarkable."

She said she hasn't heard "much" from businesses in Corner Brook about the money the shopperswill be spending in St. John's instead.

Half the seats on the trip had been sold as of Thursday morning.

Robinson said the bargain hunters won't be allowed to bring back large items, such as appliances or furniture, but there should be room for everything else on the return trip Sunday.
