Ahead of a tribute concert on Friday, musicians in St. John's say Bob Dylan is still a major influence. The singer-songwriter was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature.

It's a big day for fans of BobDylan.It was announced Thursday morning thatthe American singer-songwriter was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature and for a handful of St. John's musicians, the timing couldn't be better.

A Bob Dylan tribute show is planned for Thursday night at Holy Heartof MaryHigh Schoolin St. John's. OrganizerChris LeDrewsays Dylan has long played a role in his music and his work.

"I've been teaching Bob Dylan at university for several years now, ever since I started taking English lit," LeDrewsaid.

"I've always considered his lyrics to be as good or better than some of the people in the literary canon inThe Norton Anthology of [English]Literature."
