Body of missing Natushish teen Kirby Mistenapeo found

The search for a missing Labrador teenager came to a sad end Monday, as crews located the body ofKirbyMistenapeooutside Natuashish.

Natuashish deputy fire chief Ernie Gear said threesearchers found Mistenapeo, 17, on the iceat 10:30 a.m. Monday.

RCMP confirmed the body was located 11 kilometres west of Natuasish, in an area known as Little Sango Bay.

Mistenapeowas first reportedmissing when he didn't return home on the night of April 20.

Searchers from multiple communities went door to door in Natuashish, and used snowmobiles and aircraft to search the area surrounding the community.

Poor weather conditions caused several delays for the air search, and search organizers expressed frustration at the lack of leads in finding the 17-year-old.

The RCMP said it is working with the office of the chief medical examiner to continue the investigation into Mistenapeo's death.
