Fatal crash on TCH near Brigus Junction under investigation

The RCMP have confirmed a 39-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway early Monday morning.

The RCMP have confirmed a man was killed in a single-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway early Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the BrigusJunction area of the TCH after 1 a.m.

Witnesses reported a westbound SUV rolled over and came to a stop near the west exit ramp, according to an RCMP release.

Corporal Trevor O'Keefe spoke to the CBC's Cecil Haire about the crash on the TCH early Monday morning.

Police confirmed a 39-year-old man was killedin the crash.

"The investigation is ongoing, but from what we've seen so far, speed was a major factor in this accident," said Cpl. Trevor O'Keefe.

"Just from looking at the scene, our traffic analysts look at the scene, they see where the vehicle entered, how far it may have travelled and also we have some witness statements, as well."

O'Keefeadded the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
