The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District says it has temporarily suspended the busing contract for Executive Taxi in Paradise after nineof the company'sbuses were pulled off the road in the past week.

TheNLESD'sHeather May said the contract with the company has beensuspended to give themtime to address the issues identified in the buses and for the school district to complete a review.

Six school buses servicing the Goulds area of St. John's and Octagon Pond Elementary in Paradise were takenoff the road on Monday while two others were put on restricted services and forbidden to carry passengers.

Since then, Service NL says all 37 buses with Executive Taxi have been inspected and ninebuses in total have now been taken off the road while sixare operating on restricted services.

Service NL said the issues with the buses appear to be with thebrake system.

In the meantime, the NLESD says they are working with a local contractor to deliver bus service to the school's affected.

May said the school board has also provided additional board-owned buses to address demand where needed.
