Cab driver disarms knife-wielding woman in St. John's

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after she allegedly tried to rob a taxi driver in the Mundy Pond Road area early Wednesday morning.

A woman in St. John's attempted to rob a taxi driver at knife point early Wednesday morning, but the driver managed todisarm her.

A cab driver picked up Jennifer Pittman, 26, in the Ropewalk Lane area around 4 a.m. She asked to be taken to a home in theMundy Pond area, a short distance away.

Once the cabarrived at the residence, however, police saidPittmanpulled a knife on the driver and demanded cash.

The driver physically confronted Pittmanand police said the driver was able todisarm her and call for help.

Police arrested the 26-year-old. She's dueto appear in provincial court Thursday morning on charges of attemptedrobbery, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Police said the driver sustained minor injuries in the incident, but did not require medical attention.
