CBC documentary on Beaumont-Hamel debuts at The Rooms

More than 150 people took in a special Tuesday night screening of CBC Newfoundland and Labrador's Trail of the Caribou, a film that documents the role of the Royal Newfoundand Regiment during the Great War.

More than 150 people took in a special Tuesday night screening of CBC Newfoundland and Labrador's Trail of the Caribou, a film that documents the role of the Royal Newfoundand Regiment during the Great War.

Starring a Holy Trinity of Newfoundland and LabradorcelebritiesMark Critch, Alan Doyle and Allan Hawcothe film talks about Beaumont-Hamel as well as other lesser known battles fought by the regiment.

Crews travelled to Europe last year to film the documentary, following in the footsteps of the Royal Newfoundland Regimentthrough Turkey, France and Belgium alongthe Trail of the Caribou.

"This is one of the most important documentaries that we've undertaken in many years," said Denise Wilson, the CBC's senior managing director for Atlantic Canada.

"The story of Beaumont-Hamel and World War Onetouches the lives of so many Newfoundland andLabrador families and it's important we keep that story in the hearts and minds of today's generation."

The film was also screened on Wednesday at the Scotiabank Theatre in St. John's for more than a thousand students.

CBC to air film on July 1

There will be public viewing of the documentaryat Cineplex in St. John's on June 24, as well as on June 27in downtown St. John's as part of the REEL downtown series.

The Trail of the Caribouwill air onCBC Television on July 1 across Atlantic Canada at 9:30 p.m. NT.

It is also showing at Parks Canada theatres across Newfoundland and Labrador onJuly 1.

CBC produced The Trail of the Caribou in partnership with the City of St. John's.
