Central Health facing privacy breach of patients' records

Officials said the personal health information of 52 patients was accidentally faxed to a company in Calgary, between May and August of this year.

Central Health is dealing with a privacy breach that involves patient records.

Officials said the personal health information of 52 patients was accidentally faxed to a company in Calgary, between May and August of this year.

Staff were supposed to entera 1-866 number, but accidentally dialed a 1-800 number instead.

Central Health said the mistake didn't affect care, and that all patients involved in the breach are now being notified.

The faxes went to the email of one person, who said they did not view the files, nor were they shared with anyone else.

Central Health wouldn't reveal the name of the company that received the faxes.

The board also said it is reviewing its protocol for faxing sensitive information.
