Charlene Johnson pondering exit from politics

Finance Minister Charlene Johnson has confirmed she may be quitting politics.

Johnson tells CBC Newsshe wants to speak with family and supporters before making a final decision on whether she will retire from politics.

She says she also she wants to conclude pension talks with public sector unions. Earlier this week, CBC News reported that the Newfoundland and Labrador government is close to hammering out a deal with public sector unions on pensions, particularly on reducing a$7.3-billion unfunded liability.

Johnsonsaid she wants to leave because of family concerns. Her husband now works overseas. As well, she is the mother of ayoung daughter.

Johnson was first elected in Trinity-Bay de Verde in 2003, when the Tories took power.
