Ches Crosbie seeking federal Conservative nomination in Avalon

Well-known St. John's personal injury lawyer Ches Crosbieis vying for the federal Conservative nomination in the riding of Avalon for the 2015 election.

Crosbie made the announcement on Thursday morning in Conception Bay South, alongside his father John Crosbie.

John Crosbie is a former high-profile provincial and federal politician.

He also served as Newfoundland and Labrador's lieutenant-governor from 2008-2013.

During his announcement, Ches Crosbiestressed the importance of having a representative from Newfoundland and Labrador in the federal government.

"If we want to be shut out of access to power in Ottawa for fouryears more then don't elect any Conservative party members to Parliament," Crosbie said

"If we think it benefits this province to have the ear of the prime minister, to have a strong voice in the councils of national power, to have a voice in the highest political office in the land, then we must elect Conservative party members in Parliament in 2015."

The riding of Avalon is currently represented by suspended Liberal MP Scott Andrews.

Andrews has held the seat since 2008.

To date, Crosbie is the only person to officially announce his intention to seek the federal nomination.

The federal election has to be held by October 2015.
