Joint submission of 7 years sought for Calvin Kenny, Chesley Lucas

Two men who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Steven Miller, 25, entered a joint submission for sentencing at a provincial court in St. John's on Thursday.

Chesley Lucas, 23, and Calvin Kenny, 26, earlier this month pleaded guiltyto manslaughter, as well as arson, and robbing and confining Miller, 25.

Crown and defence lawyers are asking for a 7-year sentence.

If he has no questions for the lawyers, Judge Colin Flynn could rule onsentencingSept. 7.

Miller was violently abducted from his Seal Cove home early in the morning on July 30, 2016. His body was found at the end of a driveway in Conception Bay South.

That's because Paul Connolly, another man accused in Miller's killing, could still face a first-degree murder trial.

Lucas, Kenny, Connolly, and a fourth man, Kyle Morgan, were all charged with first-degree murder when they were arrested last year.

Morgan pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to manslaughter earlier in July.

A preliminary hearing for Connolly, who is still charged with murder, is scheduled for August.
