New child and youth advocate, chief electoral officer named by N.L. government

The provincial government announced Tuesday the new headof Elections Newfoundland and Labrador and a new Child and Youth Advocate.

Bruce Chaulk has been named the Chief Electoral Officer for Legislative Standards of Elections Newfoundland and Labrador.

Chaulk has worked with the electoral office since 2011, according to a government release, and worked as the assistant chief electoral officer and director of elections finance.

He's been in an acting role as chief electoral officer since June 2016.

Jacqueline Lake Kavanagh is taking over the role of Child and Youth Advocate, effective Dec. 16.

Carol Chafe has been working as the advocatesince 2010, but decided to leave the role.

Lake Kavanagh most recently was the assistant deputy minister with Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, and previously worked in that role with Public Safety and Enforcement and Justice and Public Safety.

Both appointments were confirmed by resolution of the House of Assembly on Dec. 12.
