A brand new roof on St. Teresa's Church on Munday Pond Road in St. John's has been stripped off by severe winds.

"On one side there's about 60 per centjust flapping into the wind," said Bruce Dumaresque, who lives in the area.

"You can see the shingles because it was a metal roof. It's rolled right back. Now it's flapping in the wind like a flag."

Dumaresque called 911 moments before speaking to CBC because he was worried about people gathering in a nearby cul-de-sac to survey the damage.

"I'd advise someone to come into the neighbourhood to remove some of the people," said Dumaresque. "It is a hazard for sure."
