Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Paul Davis says he didn't hear specific comments made by Andy Wells about climate change and global warming, but says it's unfortunate the head of the Public Utilities Board let his thoughts be known on the subject.

The comments from Wells, who is chairman and CEO of the PUB, were made in a letter to The Telegram, where he called climate change a farce and said statistics reported by scientists on the issue were "corrupt, erroneous and false."

Davis told CBC's On The Gothe comments made by Wells weren't in keeping with information he received this week at an all-premiers summit in Quebec City.

"It's clear to meall of the evidence and information clearly states that climate change is real. Climate change is impacting our environment, it's providing environments that are warmer, they're wetter and they'restormier and we've seen that here in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Davis.

"We're seeing the impacts of it [climate change] and I think for the chair of the Public Utilities Board to make that comment is unfortunate."

However, while there is still argument being made by people refuting claims that human activity is contributing to global warming and climate change, Davis said he thinks they are in a minority.

"I think the argument is swaying to the reality that climate change is real and there's numerous evidence to support the concept that climate change is real," said Davis.

According to Davis, Wells is "quite known" for sharing his opinions, but he hopes Wells' opinion won't have an affect on his work with the PUB.

"I think anybody in a position like he has should be very careful of stating an opinion outside the bounds of responsibilities that have been given him."
