Paul Connolly could be headed to trial charged with murdering Steven Miller

The last man still charged with the murder of Steven Miller has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

The lawyers for Paul Connolly advised a provincial court judge in St. John's of that decision Monday afternoon.

It means that Connolly, 36, will now go to Supreme Court on Sept. 11 to enter pleas and have a date set for his jury trial.

Connolly is charged with first-degree murder, arson, robbery, and forcible confinement in the death of Steven Miller in July of last year.

Two other men, Chesley Lucas, 24, and Calvin Kenny, 26, have pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Miller case.

The crown and defense have made a joint submission on sentencing for them ofseven and a half years.

Lucas and Kenny had been charged with murder, but accepted a plea bargain to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

They're back in court next month.

And another man, Kyle Morgan, 20, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter in Miller's death, and was sentenced to a year in prison and two years probation.

Morgan was also originally charged with murder.

Miller was found in a driveway in C.B.S. He had been stabbed, and the house he had been living in was set on fire.

Because Connolly's case could still go to a jury trial, there is a ban on publishing the facts that were used to convict Morgan, Lucas and Kenny.
