Her Majesty's Penitentiary is adding additional security measures, in response to concerns that inmates are getting their hands on illegal products.

NAPE, which represents correctional officers at the penitentiary, said there has been talk that contraband is being thrown over the walls during recreation periods, when inmates are outdoors.

NAPE which has been making public its concerns that the penitentiary has become increasingly unsafe for staffrecently organized a meeting with Department of Justice officials.

Penitentiary managers have agreed to staff an observation tower at HMP.

NAPE says the move is a positive step, as corrections officers can see all of the perimeters of the penitentiary in the north tower.
