Convicted RNC Const. Sean Kelly to be sentenced Monday

A Corner Brook police officerconvicted recently on achargeof mischief and making an indecent phone callis scheduled to be sentenced Monday by provincial court Judge Wayne Gorman.

A pre-sentence hearing took place Thursday for suspended RNC Const. Sean Kelly.

The Crown is asking that Kelly be sentenced tobetween three and six months in jail for the mischief charge, and onemonthfor the indecent phone callcharge.

Kelly's lawyer, JamieMerrigan,argued that jail time would be dangerous for a police officerand is asking for house arrest of between four and seven months.

"There's nothing to suggest Kelly is a danger to the community," said Merrigan.

Kelly declined Thursday when asked by Gormanif he had anything to say to the court.

Kelly was convicted in February formaking anindecent callto a woman in 2012and for making false statements to mislead police.

He is currently suspended without pay. His status with the police force is being reviewed by theRNC Professional Standards Branch.
