Liberal gain, NDP loss in latest CRA poll

A political poll released Wednesday by Corporate Research Associates says support for the Liberals has gone up, while fewer voters are backing the New Democratic Party.

According to the CRA poll, 42 percent of those surveyed would vote Liberal, compared to 34 per cent in August, and 17 per cent in May.

Another 34 per cent support the Progressive Conservative Party, up one percentage point over August.

Support for the NDP slipped to 23 per cent, down from 32 per cent in the summer.

The percentage of undecided is also up, to 28 per cent, compared to 23 per cent in August.

The CRA poll is based on a sample of 803 adult residents of the province, who were surveyed by telephone from Nov. 4 to Dec. 1.

Results are considered accurate within 3.5 percentage points 95 times out of 100.

Davis most popular leader

When it comes to who people support as leader, about one-third 35 per cent of those surveyed support P.C. leader Paul Davis.

He gained three percentage points, despite announcing his intention to step down as leader of the party.

Liberal leader Dwight Ball has gone from 17 per cent support three months ago to 27 per cent in the latest poll.

Support for the NDP's Earle McCurdy has dropped to 17 per cent, down from 24 per cent in August.

Support for Premier Dwight Ball and the Liberals bottomed out in August following a tough provincial budget that raised taxes and cut spending.

Most of those surveyed are still dissatisfied with the government, but only 59 per cent compared with 81 percent in August.
