Crown wants St. John's man labeled dangerous offender

The Crown has gotten approval from the attorney general to try to have a St. John's sex offender declared a dangerous offender.

Gerald Pike, 46, sexually assaulted a teenaged girl twice near The Rooms in St. John'sOct. 2012.

Pike pleaded guilty April 2013 to assaulting the girl, who was 16 at the time.

At the time of the attack, Pike was out on probation for one of two prior sexual assault convictions.

During the attack, the teen was able to dial 911 several times, which resulted in part of the assault being recorded by the police.

The assault was captured on security camera.

He first denied the attack, but ultimately identified himself on the video.

A hearing will be held to determine whether or not he will be declared a dangerous offender. If granted, Pike could get an indefinite sentence.
