Date set for Topsail byelection

The byelection for a new MHA to represent the district of Topsail, near St. John's, will be held Tuesday, March 16.

"The constituentsof the district of Topsail will have the opportunity to vote for new representation in the house of assembly," said acting premier Kathy Dunderdale in a news release Monday.

The governmentof Newfoundland and Labrador amended the House of Assembly Act in 2004 to ensure byelections are announced within 60 days and conducted within 90 days of vacancy.

The seat was vacated when Elizabeth Marshall was appointed to the Senate on Jan. 29.
