Derelict cruise ship still adrift

The Lyubov Orlova is still adrift off the southeast tip of the Avalon Peninsula.

A DFO spokesperson said the crew of the tugboat that had the old cruise ship under tow will try to reconnect the line today.

The tow rope broke on Thursday, just one day after the decrepit ship was towed out of St. John's harbour.

Sea conditions had improved overnight, but the winds Friday morningwere still about 35 km an hour and the waveswere up to three metres high.

The Orlova had been tied up in St. John's harbour for more than two years and was being towed to the Dominican Republic to be scrapped.
