Don Dunphy investigation to be completed by end of January, RCMP says
An RCMPinvestigation into the Don Dunphyshooting, whichhasbeen the centre of controversysince the Mitchells Brook man was killed last Easter,is expected to be completed by the end of January.
In a statement, the RCMP said theNewfoundland and Labrador Major Crime Unit is expected to complete all "investigative processes" and file afinal report bythe end of next month.
At that time, the report will be handed to an"outside investigative service for an independent review of the RCMP's investigation," the force said in a statement Wednesday.
Dunphy was shot and killed inside his home in Mitchells Brook,a small community in St. Mary's Bay, on Easter Sunday by a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
The officer, who was part of formerpremier Paul Davis's security detail, travelled toDunphy's home to investigateperceived threats on Twitter.
The statement also said the RCMP would not be commenting further as it is an active investigation.
