The NDP is kicking off its summer tour across Newfoundland and Labrador this week.

Leader Earle McCurdy kicked off the tour Tuesday morning at Broken Books in St. John's at 11:30 a.m.

The New Democrats will be touring the province, with an emphasis on saving public libraries.

While the Liberal government has back off on its plan to shut down 54 of the province's libraries in favour of a review, the NDP said it can still leverage the issue through the summer months.

McCurdy saidlibraries have only received a "stay of execution," addingthe Liberals just wanted an easier time while engaging with the public on theirsummer circuit.

Hesaid the provincial government isn't actually listening to the demands of the people.
