Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth is on medical leave to recover from surgery to an injured leg. He says a full recovery will take six to 12 months, and he'll be working from home until he's mobile again. (CBC)

St. John's Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth is on medical leave to recover froman injured leg.

On Monday night, Ellsworth posted on Facebookthat he needed surgery on his leg, which he injured about four weeks ago. The deputy mayor said his leg wasn't improving, so he saw a specialist who recommended surgery.

Ellsworth added he'll be working from home until he's mobile again. Fullrecovery is expected to take six to 12 months.

"I will be focusing on my recovery to get back to 100 per centASAP," wrote the deputy mayor, who was not available Tuesday, which is when he said his surgery was scheduled.
