A student at Memorial University is looking for stories from people who have their been hitchhikers or picked up hitchhikers.

Andrea McGuire, who is doing her folklore thesis on hitchhiking, has already interviewed people from Newfoundland and Labrador and Cape Breton, but is still looking for more.

"When people talk about theirhitchhikingexperiences it's often a pretty good story in there becauseyou go in the car, andyou'remeeting a stranger, seeing what will happen and there's kind of this inherent drama in that," McGuire said.

McGuire said the majority of the stories she has collected have been positive, althoughsome were negative.

"I think a big part of howhitchhikingkind of works ismaintainingthat trust between thehitchhikerand the driver," she said.

If you have a story to share, you can contact McGuire at (709) 771-2216.
