Finance Minister Bill Morneau taking budget sales pitch to St. John's breakfast meeting

Canada's minister of Finance is making a stop in St. John's next week to help sell the new federal budget.

Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau will bemakinga stop in St. John'sto help sell the new Liberal budget.

Morneau will be in town April 6for a networking breakfast hosted by theSt. John's Board of Trade.

It will be the first time since Morneau was named finance minister that hehas visited Newfoundland and Labrador.

The federal budget includes a number of provisions for the province, includingextended employment insurance aimed at helping those affected by layoffs in the oil industry, the removal of the ferry tariff for importing the MV Veteran, and money to fund atechnical assessment of the wreck of theManolisL in Notre Dame Bay.

Morneau had declined to come to Newfoundland and Labrador as part of his pre-budget consultations.

Morneau'sspeechwill take place at the Delta St. John's Hotel.

Tickets for the event are $60 for board of trademembers and $120 for non-members.
