MV Veteran to resume Fogo service Wednesday, pending final inspection

After weeks of repairs, and a series of sea trials in St. John's and on the northeast coast, the MV Veteran will return to service on Wednesday if it passes onefinal hurdle.

The $50-million ferry was pulled off the Fogo-Change Islands run for the fourth time in April, after problems with its port thruster.

The vessel has been repaired, according to the Department of Transportation and Works, and sea trials are concluding.

In a news release Thursday, the department said the Veteran will head to Lewisporte on Saturday for"a post-trial, pre-service entry analysis."

The builder, Damen Shipyards, and Rolls Royce will be involved in the final check.

If all goes well, the department saidthe Veteran will be back in its regular job Wednesday, July 6.

The Capt. Earl W.Winsor, which had to be repaired and re-certified, has been filling in since mid-May.
