A golf club in St. John's has introduced a new sport for this summer that combines golf and soccer.

Devon Lacey, footgolf instructor at the club, says the rules of the game are similar to golf, but how you play is totally different.

"Essentially, footgolf is just like golf, but you're going to replace the club and the golf ball with your foot and a size five regulation soccer ball," he said.

"The name of the game, just like golf, is to take as little shots as possible."

According to Lacey, the game can be played by anyone able to kick a ball even those who aren't fans of golf.

"It's totally fun. It's much more relaxed than golf is, in terms of technique and not as much finesses, I guess, involved."

The game has already started gaining fans in other parts of Canada and the U.S.
