Paul Davis confirmed for CBC News that Browne is set to become hisright-hand man.

"I have known Joe Browne for many years. He is a very capable man.He is a very strong leader in his own right," Davis said.

"He has managed a significant organization with theRNC. He has also worked in oil and gas over the last number of years."

Browne retired as chief in 2010, and has been working in the private sector since.

Davis, who also retired from the RNC that year after a 25-year career, said he wants Browne's expertise in the premier's office.

"He and I had some discussions over the last several months about his desires and what he'd like to do," Davis added.

'A little reversal in roles'

"I've got great confidence in him, I know his abilities are tremendous and I knew that he would be an asset to this team."

Davis was chosen as premier-designate at Saturday'sProgressive Conservative leadership convention, and will become the 12thpremier of Newfoundland and Labrador.
