Frustrations continue with cancelled, delayed flights into St. John's

July has been a tough month for travellers flying into or out of St. John's, due to a long spate ofbad weather.

A number of flights were either cancelled or delayed at St. John's International Airport againThursdayand into Friday.

A Labrador woman experienced some frustrationThursday, trying to get from Wabush to St. John's.

Penny Turner saidafter a stop at Goose Bay Airport, the Air Canada flight was cancelled due to a low ceiling and poor weather in St. John's. Dozens of other passengers were also affected.

When Turner tried to reschedule,she was told she'd have to wait until Monday for a connecting flight.

"We were flying to St. John's to visit family, but I am attendinga conference on Monday," she said.

Turner said anywhere else, Air Canada would have scheduled a new flight the next day to get passengers to their destination.

"In Labrador, we oftenwe kind of feel like we're kind of forgotten about, and in this case I kind of feel that that's the situation again," he said.

"I'm sure if it was a flight from Toronto going to St. John's they would have put another one on or anywhere else. But not up here. Kind of left to fend for ourselves."

Turner said the airlines searched for accommodations for the passengers, butthere were no hotel availabilities in town. The passengers ended up staying on the5 Wing Goose Bay base.

"They were able to get rooms at the barracks for us," she said.

"It was fine it was a bed, and a shower, which was wonderful. And they gave us three $10 vouchers."

Turner said despite the frustration and inconveniences, the staff she dealt with in Goose Bay were excellent.

"They did everything they could, they were very calm and handled things quite quickly, considering," she said.

Turner has managed to get a flight to Gander on Friday night, and another to St. John's on Saturday morning.

She added some other passengers still have to wait until Monday to get out of Goose Bay.
