There was a big pinch at the pump overnight for drivers in Newfoundland and Labrador, as gas prices jumped four cents a litre in a single setting.

For the 11th time in 12 weeks, the Public Utilities Board approved an increase in maximum gas prices.

A litre of self-serve unleaded gas on the Avalon Peninsula, for instance, can now sell for no more than $1.108.

That's the highest maximum price since last September.

The rally has been following a similar trend in the price of oil, which has been climbing since the winter.

The PUB also approved a hike of 3.2 cents in the price of diesel.

Furnace oil is up by 2.82 cents per litre, as is stove oil.
