Gerald Pike sentenced for sexual assault near The Rooms

A 47-year-old man was handed down a hefty sentence in court on Monday for sexually assaulting a teenage girl near The Rooms in St. John's.

GeraldPike was sentenced to eight years and designated a long-term offender.

He already pleaded guilty to the attack, which happened in October 2012.

The sentencing means that when Pike is released, he will be under supervision in the community for 10 years.

Pike was out on probation for one of two prior sexual assault convictions atthe time of the attack.

The teen was able to dial 911 several times during the assault, which was also captured on security camera.
