Real estate firm helps build new home for cats and dogs in Labrador

Four legged creatures in Happy Valley-Goose Bay have a new home, and Friday was move-in day.

Myrtle is happy with the arrangement.

She's one of 53 animals currently residing at the brand new SPCA shelter.

Florence Dickers, whoworks for the SPCA, said she likes the upgrade too.

"It's gonna be something else to keep clean," she said. "But by the jumpins, it's better than that old building."

The organization used the old shelter for 15 years, but it wasn't meeting theneed.

The president of the SPCA in Happy Valley-Goose Bay,Lee Hill, said the new digs have all the amenities.

"We have twocat rooms, we've got a maternity room, a sick bay, eightkennels, a huge play area anda big reception area," she said.

"So I would say in the old shelter if we could handle 12 to 13 puppies, we could probably go 30puppies in this one."

With a cost of around $250,000to build the shelter, most of the money was donated bylocal businesses.

Exit Realtychipped in $100,000, the biggest contribution.

While the animals are settling in, many will spend Christmas elsewhere. The SPCAis asking local families to take them home for the holidays.
