Helicopters searching in recovery of man off cliff in Flatrock

Search and rescue crews used two helicopters Sunday to aid in the search for a man believed to have gone over a cliff in Flatrock early Saturday evening.

Search and rescue crews used twohelicopters Sundayto aid in the search for a man believed to have gone over a cliff in Flatrock early Saturday evening.

A number of small boats, as well as a larger coastguard vessel,wereused by divers as theysearched the waters in an area commonlyknown as The Beamer.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers and theTorbayVolunteer Fire Department responded to a report that a man had fallen over the cliff's edge around5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Local fishermen and Rovers Search and Rescue had boats in the water Saturday evening.

They were unable to locate the man, however,andthe search was called off until daylightSunday.

Police said the matter does not appear to be suspicious.

RNC told CBC News Sunday afternoon that police could not yet confirm the identity of the man.
