TCH worker death: Transportation department pleads guilty to 4 safety violations

An arm of the provincial government plead guilty Monday to four safety violations stemming from the highway death of a worker in 2013.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Transportation pleaded guilty Monday to four safety violationsstemming from the highway death of a worker in 2013.

Wayne Wall, 41, was killed after a pickup truck struck him. He waswas setting up road-painting signs near Flat Bay, in western Newfoundland.

The pickup smashed into a vehicle used by Department of Transportation employees, injuring another worker.

The department entered the guilty pleas on Occupational Health and Safety breaches,includingfailing to ensure the health of workersand failing to establish a safety program.

A number of other charges were withdrawn in court on Monday. A sentencing hearing in the case is set for Dec. 22 in Stephenville.
