MD's arrest in motorcycle gang bust drags notorious St. John's address back into the headlines

One of the people scooped up in police raids on Wednesday is a physician who practices at the same downtown St. John's address as another doctor who was sent to prison in another drug bust a decade ago.

Dr. Brendan Hollohan, 57, appeared in court Thursday on twocharges. He's accusedof participating in the activities of a criminal organization and trafficking oxycodone. Police say Hollohan is an associate of the Vikings Motorcycle Club.

Hollohanhascomplied with arequest from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labradorto withdraw from practice.

The College made the request based on criminal charges laid against Hollohan.

"The College believes that it is in the public interest that Dr.Hollohan not treat patients while facing criminal charges," said Dr. Linda Inkpen, registrar of the college in anemail statement.

Inkpen said that while the charges against Hollohan have not been proven, they are serious enough to warrant asking himto withdraw from practice.

He was released on $25,000 bondand is scheduled to return to court in November.

Hollohan is a general practitioner who graduated from Memorial University's medical school in 1992. He lives in Paradise but practicesat 80 Queen's Road the same location that Dr. Sean Buckingham practiced before he was arrested in 2005.

Dr. Sean Buckingham was arrested and accused oftrading drugs for sex in 2005. He was sent to prison for seven years onfour counts of sexualassaultand six drug trafficking charges in 2008.

During his trial, female patients testified that he demanded sex in return for drugs such as Oxycontin. One woman said Buckinghamtied her naked to a tree and beather with a branch.

Fiveyears after his arrest, the College Of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador suspended Buckingham's medical licence indefinitely and struck his name from the province's medical register.

Murder scene two decades ago

80 Queen's Road is also the address where career criminal Derek Druken was shot dead20 years ago.

Druken, 33, was shot in twice in the upper body on Nov. 20, 1996 in the parking lot of the former Theatre Pharmacy.
