The bill is in for repairs at the Holyrood generating station after a storm in January caused a major power outage.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro estimates it'll cost $13.2 million to repair a damaged generator at the facility.

Rob Henderson, a vice-president with Hydro, said the damage to the unit is extensive.

"This is a type of failure that is very, very rare for us," Henderson said. "[We] ended up with some extensive damage that will require some time to repair."

There are some concerns from customers about the length of time the repairs will take. However, Henderson said it is normal for maintenance on the equipment to take months.

"It is not unusual forus to take this time to carefully take everything apart, examine all of the parts to determine the level of damage and what's the cause of the damage," he said.

"It is not surprising that we would be taking this time to repair. It is a very complex piece of machinery."

Hydro has already spent about $2.5 million to take the generators apart and examine them.

Henderson said experts from outside the province must be brought in tohelpwith the repairs.
