More than 200 people have gathered in Placentia for a two-day conference highlighting industrial opportunities in the area, although the talk of the show Wednesday involved who didn't show up.

No one from Husky Energy which announced last Decemberit was delaying a decision on the West White Rose extension project came to speak at the 13th Placentia Bay Industrial Showcase.

Husky also served notice late last yearit was re-evaluating how it would develop the west pool.

The delay came as a blow to Placentia, as Husky had previously announced it would build a concrete gravity structure at Argentia, as part of a massive wellhead platform.

Placentia residents are also anxious about Husky's move to consider a subsea system at West White Rose, because it would likely shut Placentia out of any industrial benefits.

Placentia Mayor Wayne Power said Husky's absence is felt at this year's meeting, particularly since the company updated delegates about its plans last year.

"They were invited and have decided not to come here today," Power said.

"It would have been nice to see them here, but they made the decision based on the conditions they are going through."

Power said he remains hopefulHusky will select the wellhead platform option.

In a statement, Husky said it was still evaluating both options.
