Hunting at night, other offences lead to convictions against 3 N.L. men

Three men in central Newfoundland have been fined forvarious hunting and fishing offences, which includeillegal netting of salmon and hunting moose in the dark with a flashlight.

He was convicted in court in Gander on Sept. 9ofillegal possession of salmon and illegally netting salmon.

Gibbonswas fined $6,000 andprohibited from being near inland waters for threeyears. Healso had to forfeit a 2007 Honda ATV, a net, 37 salmon and seven rounds of ammunition.

In another case, wildlife officers on patrol on Sept. 12, 2015 encountered two men who had shot and killed an adult bull moose in the dark.

Jeffrey Ackerman of Warehamwas convicted on Aug. 25 of hunting big game at nightwith the use of an artificial light, andwas fined $1,000.

A rifle, ammunition and four quarters of moose were seized.Ackerman is not allowed to apply for a big game license for five years.

And on Aug.10, Jason Pettenof Coley's Point pleaded guilty topossession of untagged moose in provincial court in Grand Falls-Windsorand was fined $1,000, plusa $300 victim surcharge.

Petten also had to forfeit the moose, a rifle, and a cash bond of $9,700 which was posted for a six-wheel Argo that was seized during the investigation. He is prohibited from hunting big game for five years.
