INFOGRAPHIC: St. John's collisions, by the numbers

We crunched the numbers of collisions in St. John's. Share our infographic with your social media networks.

If you want to avoid a collision in St. John's, you might want to leave the car alone on Fridays, avoid the late-afternoon rush, and not drive in November.

Oh, and if the weather is nice and pleasant? Take heed. More accidents occur on clean, dry pavement than when it's wet or icy.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Shannie Duff says speeding is to blame for a great many of the collisions reported in St. John's.

"We have a speeding problem in this city. Driversfor some reason or other speed," Duff told fellow councillors at Monday's meeting.

Duff said she would like the city to collaborate with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on ways to curb speeding.

"I'd like to refer this to the police, parking and traffic committee to look at working with the RNC with the possibility of having a blitz or two throughout the year of issuing parking tickets for speeding for anywhere in the city," she said.

The report presented to council also found that driver inattention was a leading cause of collisions.
